Tree planting at the The Woodland Trust Young People’s Forest at Mead
“The Young People’s Forest at Mead is being planted on an extensive former open cast mining site near Heanor in Derbyshire. It has an incredible history with links to the National Coal Board, DH Lawrence, the renowned Miller-Mundy and Leche families, a Sheriff of Nottingham, through the Knight’s Fees of the Norman Conquest and even back to the Vikings! ” – https://www.woodlandtrust.org.uk
Trees are a natural way to help combat the current climate crisis – we just need more of them. At NT V&D we want to be part of the solution and contribute to the 50 million more trees in the ground across the UK. Therefore, the team grabbed some shovels, pulled on the wellies, and got ready to get digging!
The #iwill Campaign
Woodland Trust are creating the new Young People’s Forest by planting over 250,000 trees, as part of the #iwill campaign to promote youth social action. Children and young people will help shape the future of this wonderful place, creating a forest for themselves and their community. Because of this, NT V&D encouraged younger staff, apprentices and employee’s children to roll up their sleeves and get involved in the muddy fun!
Environment & Health
We would recommend a fun-filled tree planting outing to any business. It’s certainly a great way to spend time with the team in the fresh outdoors, which can be great for health & wellbeing. Along with this, you are helping the environment, which is something we take seriously at NT. In fact, according to the World Health Organization, ‘the climate crisis is also a health crisis’, therefore, on World Health Day 2022, WHO will focus global attention on urgent actions needed to keep humans and the planet healthy and foster a movement to create societies focused on well-being.
Over 200 trees planted!
Fantastic efforts from the NT V&D team, who managed to plant 200+ trees. The morning was followed by a much deserved pub lunch and drinks!
